April 2021 Count

After that stellar start to the year, things have really slowed down. This could be a problem as the first miniatures of the year were purchased in April and Warlord are about to release the second wave of Epic Civil War; I've ordered at least four boxes from that!

Painted: 96

96 Austrian Infantry (6mm)

Bought: 60 (Cursed City Set)

Lots of lovely sprues - Cursed City set

Yearly Count: +705

March 2021 Count

Another slow month on the painting front. Still nothing bought this year though which helps - I'm not counting the Civil War stuff as it was purchased in 2020. Sneaky, I know but ACW will have its revenge given the pre-orders made!

Painted: 39

32 Austrian Jaegar (6mm)

1 15mm Confederate General (test piece)

5 Imperial Scouts from Legion

1 Luke Skywalker

Yearly Count: +669

February 2021 Count

Not much activity this month due to another knee injury taking me away from just about anything other than the sofa and the tv. Sadly the cricket didn't go well either.

6 mm remains this year's theme with three more regiments completed. Still no purchases but that is about to change thanks to Warlord's new US Civil War range... they called and predictably my wallet answered!

24 French Imperial Guard Grenadiers (6mm)

The Return of the Monthly Count

Way back in the mists of time, alright 2018 (but at my age that's foggy) I stopped maintaining a monthly count of troops painted to troops bought. This was mostly due to needing to concentrate on painting cuirassiers for the Great Game.

But now I feel that hobby urge to prove I am painting more than I purchase and so the Monthly Count returns, complete with handy widget to the right!

So the count for January

Painted: 558

7 Necron Warriors for WH40K

5 Necron Immortals

5 Necron Lychguard

12 Necron scarabs

1 Necron Annihilation Barge

1 Primaris Firestrike Servo Turret

8 Prussian cannon (6mm)

18 Prussian Kuirasiers (6mm)

18 Prussian Dragoons (6mm)

240 Prussian Landwehr (6mm)

36 Prussian Hussars (6mm)

63 Prussian Landwehr cavalry (6mm)

24 Austrian Infantry (6mm)

120 Russian Infantry (6mm)

Bought: 0

Yearly Count: +558

I doubt I will have such a productive month again, there was a lot sitting on the desk just waiting to be finished off!

And of course no purchases... but Mad for War is here so that will change.

August - December Count

I’ve been very remiss in keeping the count of finished miniatures going this year.

Of course that might be down to sheer embarrassment as since the Cuirassier crisis hit in the middle of the year I’ve not actually finished anything. All effort has gone on getting the 13th Cavalry Division spruced up and ready for action at Waterloo in mid-June 2019.

I would like to report that the cuirassiers have stopped me from purchasing other items but well… I’m weak and they are so… shiny. All I can take solace in is that if I gave in to every whim and fashion that wargaming throws at us it could be a lot worse!

So here is the sad August count:

Bought:

·       6 Mosquitoes for Blood Red Skies – an absolute moment of weakness but it is my favourite WWII aircraft. It has also resulted in me humming the 633 Squadron theme incessantly. I’m sure somebody will put me out of my misery soon, there is a fine collection of sharp and blunt instruments in our kitchen after all.

·       6 Hurricanes for Blood Red Skies – this was for a Battle of Britain project I came up with and started before the cuirassiers trotted into view

·       4 assorted Necrons for Warhammer 40K – joining the pile of another unpainted army

·        Kill Team box set – 10 Mechanicus and 10 Genestealer cults miniatures

·       1 Ork buggy – always loved the Orks in 40K ever since the first metal box set and the new models are fantastically, shiny, spikey and orky

·       1 Ork mekanik

·       Blackstone Fortress game – this contained several WH40K mythos models that have never been available before including traitor guardsman and rogue psykers. Haven’t tried the game yet but it can be played solo so there’s a chance it will get rolled out soon. 44 miniatures in all

·         7 Star Wars Legion Rebel Fleet troopers

·         111 Cuirassiers

·         4 guns and crew (20 in all) – French horse artillery

5 monthly: -210
Yearly: -205
Well, given the point of the count is to demonstrate I’m finishing more than I buy, that’s a disaster!

At least 2019 will zero the count!

July Count

Back to work this month which led to a distinct down turn in my output. On the plus side I managed to resist purchasing anything!

That's not going to last given the burgeoning Cuirassier Crisis that's building in the Napier household.

Finished:
  • 7 Celts

June Count

So the month of June was desperately spent trying to regain control of the painted to bought ratio.

It was only partially successful though hugely helped by the fact that I was on a short sabbatical from work which resulted in a few days dedicated to brush on miniature action!

Finished:
  • 9 6mm Russian generals
  • 9 6mm Russian hussars
  • 1 Imperial Knight (which is a lot bigger than it sounds)
  • 2 Future Freedom Fighters for unspecified Donnybrook project
  • 31 Celts
Bought:
  • 23 Necrons (WH40K undead, robotic nasties!)
Monthly: +29
Yearly: -2

May Progress

Oh dear... as recounted in the Nottingham Loot post, this month took a heavy hit on the miniatures purchased. As well as that trip I succumbed to some Roman purchasing early in the month.

  • 1 Nephilim Jet Fighter (WH40K Dark Angel flyer)

April Progress

This is the calm before the storm - at least as far as buying is concerned! Next week sees a trip to Nottingham... carnage will ensue (of a plastic die rolling kind).

Painted

  • 1 Grey Knight - to help take on nasty spiky chaos thing

February and March 2018 Progress

Well the year's production has got a bit better mostly due to the bulk qualities of 6mm and finding some troops that had been hanging about just waiting to be finished off.

January 2018 Progress

And we're off to a slow start... nothing at all finished in January, a few 6mm got to the ready for basing stage, so did a few 40K figures but nothing actually got completed.

The 40K condition continued too with a few unnecessary purchases (enabled by some Festive gift vouchers); soon GW are going to own the house!

Improvement required for February then!

Nothing!

1 Primaris Officer

10 Tzangors

December Progress

December turned out to be productive, I finally braved the cold and damp and went into the garage and based a whole load of 6mm troops that had been awaiting my attention for some months.
This of course has upped the numbers significantly:

Painted:
1 Grey Knight
72 Napoleonic Prussian Infantry (6mm)
60 Napoleonic French Imperial Guard Foot Artillery (6mm)

Bought:
9 Eldar

Yearly Trend: +204

September, October and November progress

It has been a quiet few months with not much getting off the hobby table. October saw another entertaining League of Augsburg whiz past which meant some of my figures actually saw table, tape measure and dice for once.

On the purchase front the unkickable Warhammer 40K habit (established 1987) monopolised the limited purchases made.

The garage is currently inundated with 6mm Napoleonic just waiting for a bit of quick basing. Get those done in December and the Yearly Trend figure will look very healthy.

Painted:
2 Grey Knights
1 Inquisitor Greyfax
15 Donnybrook BS project

Purchased
5 Chaos Havocs
1 Imperial Knight
2 Eldar

Monthly Trend: +10
Yearly Trend: +80

July and August Progress

Well that was a quick couple of months and I've just noticed I didn't do a count for July.

So here's one for the last two months - the 40K theme for this year continues to dominate.

Painted:
6 Chaos Marines
1 Cypher (renegade Dark Angel)
20 Imperial Guardsmen
6 Imperial Guard heavy weapons
3 Donnybrook BS project

Purchased
Nothing, nada, not a jot. I didn't even make Claymore, so no impulse purchases there, the hobby being sacrificed to attend a toddler party (there were balloons and cake, all the bribes I need).

Monthly Trend: +36
Yearly Trend: +70

June Progress

A little reversal in June, some progress made with the completion of a long shelved Roman project but there were more GW purchases (are there any help groups out there?) and a collection of figures for my top secret Donnybrook project (which believe it or not is even sadder than the 40K addiction - if you don't believe me stay tuned!).

Painted:
32 1st Century Romans including a scorpion.

Purchased
10 Astra Militarium Steel Legion
31 Donnybrook BS project

May Progress

More cheating this month with a few 6mm cannon and crew being finished off. I also based a large number of 6mm Russian Napoleonics (somewhere in the region of 186) but these don't count as I didn't paint them but purchased them off EBay.

Purchases were limited to 5 more Warhammer 40K (I need counselling I know) and I managed to avoid a major blow out at Falkirk due to fixture congestion requiring me to look after the twins (still not old enough to paint detail, but maybe I could get them undercoating soon; they are at the age where the mess is the main attraction).

Painted:
20 French Imperial Guard Horse Artillery (6mm)

5 Astra Militarium Tempestus

April Progress

Ok now we are really cheating, with the 15mm troops pushing me into the positives for the year in March I've pulled out the big guns for April!

Yes! It's been a 6mm Napoleonic month!

The Warhammer 40K itch still hasn't been scratched and with 8th edition announced it may continue to irritate for some time yet...

Painted:
27 Prussian Uhlans (Napoleonic 6mm, 1st, 2nd and 3rd regiments)

Purchased
5 Eldar Dire Avengers (WH40K) - don't really know why, they were there, they were shiny, they are wholly unnecessary; it was pay day - I only went in to the shop to buy some ink.

Monthly Trend: +22
Yearly Trend: +28

A whole load of 6mm artillery didn't quite make the cut this month, so the trend will continue upwards, unless something very shiny turns up at Falkirk!

I mean what are the chances?

Oh...

March Progress

Another month slips past and the rate of painting has increased but only because I've switched to 15mm!

There seems to be a rekindled interest in Warhammer 40K this year with the mythos finally moving on a bit.

Painted:
16 US Paratroopers (WWII 15mm)
4 Deathwing Terminators (WH40K)
1 Chaos Marine (WH40K)

Purchased
3 Triumvirate of the Primarch (WH40K)
3 Triumvirate of the Imperium (WH40K)
5 Grey Knight Terminators (WH40K)

Monthly Trend: +10
Yearly Trend: +6

Unfortunately I think I need to get to +200 and beyond to actually make an impact on the plastic, resin and lead stockpile.

February Progress

Two months into the new regime and I find myself behind already. I'm going to put the blame wholly on Games Workshop for suddenly producing some interesting Warhammer 40K miniatures and a dwarf team for the re-launched Blood Bowl (I have a sentimental attachment to those vertically challenged, spike infested, homicidal maniacs).

So February count:

Painted:
7 BLB miniatures.
4 Warlord WWII miniatures (Guarding the Chateau set)

Purchased:
3 Warhammer 40K (Elder Triumvirate of Ynnead)
12 Blood Bowl dwarves

Monthly Trend: -4
Yearly Trend: -4
