Cuirassier Update - finished

...just!

It has been very quiet here as nearly all my spare time (and a fair few holidays) have been spent painting cuirassiers, officers and artillery.

The game itself is tomorrow and I hope to post lots of photos here soon. But for now here is my contribution ready to be boxed.

I'll post better pictures of these later too but for now its boxing and on to Glasgow.

Finally... The French Light Infantry March!

A few weeks ago I mentioned in passing that there was a load of 28mm Perry Napoleonic French sitting on the table waiting to be based. They'd been waiting a while.
Two years in fact.
Well the  guilt must have got to me!

The regiment

They are supposed to represent the 13th regiment and I did have a lovely GMB flag ready to complete the eagle bearer.

But, it was too big and the glue on the pole too resolute to make an adjustment! So this regiment have left their precious colour in the depot and just brought the pole. Apparently not too uncommon in reality due to the expense of replacing them.

Flitting quickly between nations on the 6mm front. Here is a battery of French Imperial Guard Horse Artillery.

Now the question is should I invest the time in putting together some limbers? They'll look good but will they be used?

More Tiny, Tiny Men

A couple more French regiments to add to the mix. First up some more Light infantry.

 

A bright blue again but I'm still experimenting with the colour scheme and I certainly haven't got used to photographing this scale.

 

 

And then just for some variety and to give the French Army a solid backbone the 1st battalion of the Old Guard Grenadiers.

6mm French Light Infantry

Some troops to go with the burgeoning collection of 6mm buildings. These represent a French light infantry battalion.

There are a few skirmishers too.

There's not much scope for detail though I have gone to town on some Imperial Guard which should feature on these pages soon (though when I asked if I should paint moustaches on them there was some eye rolling from the better half).

I've also painted then in brighter colours than I would 28mm, just to get them to stand out a bit.

In between the random daubing I've been prowling E-Bay for painted 6mm, just to get the numbers up quickly. There should be a battle soon, if time, twins and the better half allow.

More French - or the League of Augsburg Waterloo Hangover

Having returned from Derby in October I had a look over the garage shelves and decided it was high time I got some more of the 28mm French knocked off the spreadsheet. This has resulted in a large Gallic incursion on the painting desk back in the study:

Most of these are destined to be light, partially because I already have the flags but mostly as I could get away with simple blue uniforms without having to worry about white trousers.

I also had a handy half can of spray paint left over form all the blue marines I've done over the years, which further greased the path of least resistance.

But there are also some standard line on the way...

Getting Me Colonels Out

There have been some suggestions that I have a deleterious effect on any officer cadre I come across. Mere rumour I'm sure but just in case I need a few spare colonels for next weekend's League of Augsburg Waterloo extravaganza I've decided to prepare a few.

What I’m Working on Now…

It’s back to the default setting of 1815 and some more French. These guys are destined to be base coated and dipped using Army Painter. Still experimenting with that, still having variable results!

Perry Miniatures – plastic and metal

Kellerman

This is Perry's version of Kellerman from their 1815 range. Like many other figures he's been languishing on the old desktop for some time and only recently got daubed whilst I was contemplating what to start next.

I recently made a list of everything I'd bought and had yet to paint. I don't recommend doing this, it was depressing in the extreme.

Finished Unit – French Infantry 17th Line

I used to play a lot of Warhammer and for some reason I see the French in Napoleonic times as pretty much like the orcs (albeit not green and scaly) – you simply can’t have enough of them. This little lot are meant to represent the 1st Battalion of the 17th Line who were part of the 2nd Division of the 1st Corps at Waterloo.
All miniatures are a mixture of metal and plastic Perry, flag GMB.



These were completed using Army Painter – a combination of grey undercoat and the mid-tone shade. Not too sure it works with blue but reasonably pleased with the effect on great coats.

More French and another unit started a while back Imperial Guard Grenadiers, should be a worrisome sight for any Allies I eventually manage to paint up. I have the figures but they’re sat in boxes!

It’s been a month with a French feel to it. This week the 7th Dragoons, finally got round to basing them:

Complete with elite company in bearskins(just love those).
