More Celts

Fast on the heels of my first batch of Celts, the second batch is now complete.

This means I have finally finished the Warlord Hail Caesar starter set which was given to me in 2013!

All of these were painted in batches of six. I took four colours (red, blue, green and cream) and varied trousers, shirts etc. with each colour. These were the last to be started before the GW Contrast paints became available.

Celts

These are from the Warlord Hail Caesar starter set. I completed the Romans sometime ago and they've been kicking their heels in a plastic box for a couple of years.
Thirty completed... another thirty to go to finish the set (I bought a load more when I visited Warlord HQ last year).

Nottingham Loot

Recent trip to Nottingham led me to the HQ store of Warlord Games. Had some interesting chat with the staff there and of course succumbed to a slight spend:

  • Celtic cavalry
  • Celtic archers blister
  • Celtic chieftains blister
  • Roman general (who in now way looks like Russell Crowe in Gladiator - honest)
  • Roman generals
  • Roman auxiliary command
  • Blood Red Skies - an impulse buy backed up by some interesting reviews I'd read on the internet. I have an idea for this, more when I actually get round to it!
  • Wargames Illustrated - don't always buy this these days but noticed a BLB article!
I was also given a  miniature of a crusader for visiting the store.
I allowed my credit card an evening to recover and then wandered over to Warhammer World (those of a historical disposition may want to look away now).

  • Forgebane - self contained WH40K set with loads of cool Mechanicum models
  • Some Primaris Reavers... no can't explain that one other than I like the skull motif helmets
  • Aeldari web gate - it's scenery, you can't have too much scenery!
  • A selection of paint - this is actually for my Romans and Celts!
Now all I have to do is explain this to the better half, on reflection perhaps I should have brought her back more than a mug...

...or maybe not blogged about it publicly!

28mm Romans

Way back in the mists of time my other half being fed a steady diet of Rome, I Claudius and Spartacus, kindly bought me the Hail Caesar starter set Conquest of Gaul.

These stoic chaps have spent three and a half years on the sprue before I finally got round to assembling them.

I wanted to get these done quickly.. They were swiftly undecorated with Leadbelcher spray which after a wash of black ink and quick dry brushed highlight did for the armour.

Red was a base coat, wash and edge highlight, anything brown met the same fate.

I cheated on the shields and bought some transfers from Warlord and gave them a light ink wash to dirty them up a bit.

Basing was kept simple, the base was smothered in GW texture paint - Stirland Mud - and then flocked with a little cheap leaf litter.

There was also a little scorpion to do.

I now have 60 Celts to do!
